General Ordination Exams: FAQs

An FAQ guide on using library resources to complete the General Ordination Exams.

Troubleshooting

What should I do if an eBook says it is unavailable because it is "currently being used"?

  • Some of the library's eBook licenses allow unlimited simultaneous uses, but others restrict the number of users who may simultaneously access a particular eBook. You may wish to pick a different resource or wait a few minutes and try again. The GOE exams never require the use of one particular resource; there should always be a variety of suitable resources to aid answering a question.
  • Tip: Please close out your browser tab right away when you are finished using an eBook. That way, it will be free for others who need it.

Can you help me find good books to use for the exam questions?

  • During the exams, library staff cannot answer research questions or recommend resources (i.e. where would I find information about Augustine's just war theory?). Choosing appropriate sources is part of the exam itself.
  • We can help you locate a specific book on the shelf (i.e. where is Enriching Our Worship?)

What do I do when I receive an error message for a digital resource?

  • The most common problem occurs when a browser's cookies or cache interferes with an eBook vendor's website. Clearing your cookies and cache often resolves this problem. See more instructions here.
  • Library staff can help you troubleshoot error messages.
